Introduction:

Today I’m surprised to realize how much I’ve learned from this course. This semester seemed short but the knowledge I’ve earned was great. In this reflection I will talk about my favorite classes, what I enjoyed most in this course, why it’s important to learn Cultural Diversity, give my opinion on this course, and explain some of my ideas for having a Harmony Day in the UAE.

Favorite Classes:
Finishing this semester now, I mostly enjoyed the classes where we were given educational videos to watch and learn from. My favorite class was about “Slavery”. We watched a series of videos about how it began and how it is now; there were new facts I didn’t know before the class, for example, in 1850 an average slave in the American South costs the equivalent of $40,000 in today’s money; today a slave costs an average of $90. I liked that lesson most because it affected me more than the other classes. It’s because of that lesson my eyes are opened to this problem and I know now that slavery is bigger than I ever thought.

Importance of Cultural Diversity:
I believe that this course has enlightened my mind to many new facts, thus showing its importance. Most people live in a culturally diverse community and it is important to know about other cultures when communicating with them to avoid misunderstandings and social problems.

UAE Harmony Day:
Each year Australia and Singapore celebrate cultural diversity by having a Harmony Day. If the government of the UAE ever decided to celebrate this day I believe it should be on the 27th of November, because that’s the day Dubai won the right to hold Expo 2020. I believe it should be held on that date because World Expos attract millions of visitors and having a harmony day is a perfect way to welcome all cultures in the UAE. I imagine it to be celebrated by raising all flags in schools, buildings and streets.

Conclusion:
All in all, my adventure in this course was a great experience, one that I will not forget. What I leaned in these classes will always benefit me through my daily life.
